Two women were struck by a car while walking on Ninth Street in Portsmouth Monday. According to Portsmouth Police, a car driven by David Burchett, 62, was southbound on Offnere Street when it turned west on Ninth Street into the path of a truck operated by Harold Slark, Sr., 65.

Both vehicles slammed into utility poles and the car struck Rachael Meadows, 34, and Diane Keller, 47. Both women were flown by helicopter to medical facilities. The car became lodged between Staker’s Sales and Service and a utility pole and the truck ended up on the sidewalk opposite the car.

Harold Slark, Jr., 40, was a passenger in the truck but was not injured.

Ninth Street and the block of Offnere Street between Gallia and Ninth were closed for a period of time as members of the Portsmouth Police Department and Portsmouth Fire Department braved the rain to investigate the crash.
