William Howell, 92, of Hill View Retirement Center, formerly of Dry Run, West Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at SOMC Hospice.

He was born June 22, 1917, on Dry Run, to the late Silas and Lou Hall Howell. He was a retired from Detroit Steel and Coke Plant after 43 years of service. He attended Old Town United Methodist Church and Grace Chapel Church.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Conley Howell; a son, Larry Wayne Howell; three brothers, Steven, Andy and Henry Howell; and two sisters, Stella Caudwell and Smatha Hall.

William is survived by three sons, Vernon (Jacklyn) Howell, Gary (Sue) Howell and Gregory Howell, all of West Portsmouth; a daughter, Judy Reeder of West Portsmouth; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with Matthew Brookes officiating, and interment in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and one hour before the service on Monday.

The family requests donations be made to SOMC Hospice in William’s name.
