Virginia Lee Fisher, 78, of Portsmouth, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Hill View  Retirement Center after a long illness. She was born Feb. 14, l931, at Portsmouth to Edward and Pauline Fisher who preceded her in death.

Jinny graduated from Holy Redeemer in l948, then earned her college education and degree from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University), graduating in l952. Her professional career started in Portsmouth and Ashland, Ky., and in l956 she moved to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where she worked in Hematology and Hematology Research until she retired in l986. Jinny’s many interests and hobbies included quilting, philately, traveling, and playing tennis, golf and bridge with her many friends. Much of her Cincinnati life was shared with her special friend, Jackie Vidourek. They lived together and enjoyed separate Children’s Hospital careers, and traveled to London, Ireland, and various places in the USA. Jinny’s specialized stamp collections were of carriages which resembled the “Fisher Body” logo and stamps of the British Empire. She volunteered and served as an officer in various organizations and helped establish the permanent home for the Cincinnati’s l988 Bicentennial Quilt at Twin Towers Life Enrichment Community, where she moved in 2005. She loved good music and had season tickets to the Cincinnati Pops concerts. Jinny loved to buy and teach all the kids how to assemble and fly kites and many afternoons were spent at Notre Dame High School together during the summer.

Jinny is survived by her brother, Gary (Garnet) Fisher and their children and their families: Douglas (Edie) Fisher and Laura, Katherine and Steven; Susan Olson, and Michael Debo (Mary Nelson), Chris (Jayme) Debo and Audrey, Emma, and Evan; Jennifer Debo Thrift (Tony) and Tyler and Lucas; Ken (Alice) Fisher, and Sarah and Colin; and Sondra (Jay) Hash and Truman and Clara.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m.  Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. Dwayne McNew officiating. Friends may call at Melcher Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.  Friday.

Recitation of the Rosary will be  8 p.m.. Friday at Melcher Funeral Home.

Burial wll be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Jinny was a loving and caring person and she will be missed. Special thanks to the loving staff of the third-floor Assisted Living at Hill View Retirement Center for their special care of Jinny.
