According to the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a single vehicle accident involving a semi truck occurred on State Route 140 at Gephart Road and Ashley Corner Friday at approximately 12:50 p.m.

State Trooper Donald Edgington was called to the scene of the accident which occurred. According Edgington, Daniel Wolery, the driver of the vehicle, was headed east on State Route 140 when he failed to negotiate a curve.

“He was driving through a right hand curve, drifted left of center in the curve, we are not sure of what the cause was at this point. He drifted off the left side of the roadway and overturned and went down into an embankment,” Edgington said.

Wolery was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Edgington said roughly 25 tons of trash being carried by the truck was strewn onto the road as a result of the accident.

“It was a lengthy clean up because of that,” he said.

Gahm’s Towing was summoned to the scene of the accident to clean up the trash and remove the wrecked semi. The Ohio Department of Transportation was also on the scene as well.

“We maintained traffic in one lane until the wreckers showed up, and then we had to shut down Rt. 140 for a period of time,” Edgington said.

Edgington said the cause of the accident has not yet been determined and is still under investigation.
