Montie Francis Spriggs, 79, of Lucasville died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1930, in Lucasville, a son of the late Louis Randall and Ann Jane White Spriggs.

Montie was a retired truck driver from Standard Material, a Teamster, and co-owner of the RRD Restaurant in Lucasville. He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran serving with the 7th Calvary Division, member of the William A. Baker Post of the American Legion, and an honorary member of the Valley Township Volunteer Fire Department where he served as assistant chief for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Hannah Spriggs, whom he married July 3, 1954, in Indiana; three sons, Darrell (Cherri) Spriggs, Rodney Spriggs and Randy (Betty) Spriggs, all of Lucasville; five grandchildren, Scott (Rachel) Spriggs, Katie, Brad, Ashley, and Rodney Spriggs II; three brothers, Don (Hope) Spriggs of Columbus, John Spriggs of Lucasville, David (Penny) Spriggs of Lucasville; four sisters Ann O’Rourke of Lucasville, Nancy (Dallas) Williams of Florida, Sandy (Bruce) Branham of Kentucky, and Martha Shope of Lucasville.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Spriggs.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville with Sherman Mefford officiating. Burial will follow in Lucasville Cemetery where graveside military rites will be performed by the William A. Baker Post of the American Legion. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and an hour before the funeral Saturday at the funeral home.
