If you are one of those people wishing to be as informed as possible before casting your vote and you still have questions for local candidates, you will be able to get their undivided attention Thursday night at the James Dickey Post 23 of the American Legion, 705 Court St. in Portsmouth, as they stage their Meet the Candidates night.

“This is where candidates have the opportunity to come in, and we provide them with a table upstairs in our newly redesigned meeting room. We’ve really fixed the place up,” Ken Crawford, Commander of Post 23, said. “The public can walk through and ask questions. There will be no debate, and there will be no rallies or anything like that. The public will just have an opportunity for one on one contact with the candidates.”

Crawford said, rather than have a formal debate and organized question and answer session, the Post decided it would set the atmosphere for people to ask whatever they wanted of the candidates.

“The Legion has shied away from politics,” Crawford said. “But this gives people in our community the opportunity to just meet the candidates and make up their own minds.

Crawford said, as of Tuesday, he has commitments from seven candidates to attend the Meet the Candidates night program, and expects to receive commitments from more of the candidates.

The event is Thursday from 7-10 p.m., is free to the public, and refreshments will be served.

So! TommyB55, where were you last night? My understanding you didn't speak with the Sheriff last night! Did you not show up or maybe you were actually there at one of the tables and re-thought your stupid thoughts! Your a real goofball. Take some Vivatrol!

TommyB55 do I sense a touch of desperation! Im sure you all will continue to play out your negative tactics to try to discredit the Sheriff. You know if you and your candidate of choice would get off your "duff" you might be able to raise some funds! The Sheriffs fundraising results simply indicate the positive support and the number of friends he has, the other two candicates fundraising efforts also indicates the same. They obviously have little support or friends. You don' get support by being negative and bashing someone! Both of the other candidates are too lazy, they think they can just ask for donations on their Facebook by asking people to use PayPal. What are you guys doing to do, run the Sheriff's Office through Facebook. TommyB55 you are obviously an unhappy person. You will never change until you accept your personal responsibility for your pathetic situation!

Dear Mr. Goins and Mr. Horner: I hope both of you are there because I would like for you to explain to me why you feel that posting negative comments on your Facebook log will garnish you more votes. You guys still don't get it! To think, one of you is still a cop and the other use to be a Chief! Do you really think the Sheriff is out tearing down signs or violating elections laws? If so, you are really goofy! Both of you have latched on to so called special interest group and feeding them what they want to hear in hopes of getting there support. Don't you get it, in politics you just need to be yourself! Oh! Right! You are!

I'm so glad some else is seeing all those negative post too!!! Goins seems to just talk and talk and make promises that are never going to be able to be fulfilled and I honestly don't think he's ready to take on the whole county. And what's with the latest signs he has added "Victims and Citizens DESERVE Steve Goins for Sheriff". Really? It makes me chuckle every time I see it. And Horner, I mean where can I start? I could go on and on for days as could most of the county I'm sure. Donini is the only one of the three with a good head on his shoulders. Not only that, his group has been out working their tails off, I've seen them all over Portsmouth the last couple weeks, not to mention the signs up all over the place. Atleast he is going out and talking to people and not playing on Facebook asking for votes!

Dear Mr. Donini, I hope you do attend this meeting, so I can ask you why you sold $100 raffle tickets for a 7 day cruise valued at $3000 and a trip to Las Vegas. I do not see how you can call them door prizes. Your campaign forms show for your fundraiser on May 15th people were paying you $100 that was for the raffle chances to win the trips and if they did not want to pay the $100, they paid $25 for your rib dinner. I am sure you as the Sheriff know what the Ohio Revise Code says about raffles for profit, no indidival can do that, you are not a non-profit company, or fraternal organization or veteran organization.

Do not believe me, go get your campaign forms that you filed, its in black and write.
