A Scioto County woman, charged with shooting three members of a family to death in December of 2008 has had her murder trial continued.

Kara Garvin, 30, of 3407 Back Road, Franklin Furnace was to have gone on trial Monday for the murders of Edward D. Mollett, 46, and Juanita F. Mollett, 43, of 287-C Snook Road, and 20-year-old Christina J. Mollett, 1602-A Junior Furnace Road.

The shooting took place in the Snook Road residence, and was witnessed by a 6-year-old grandchild of Edward and Juanita Mollett, who ran to a neighbor’s house. The neighbor called 911, and on the recording, the child is heard explaining what he witnessed.

Shortly after Garvin was arrested, authorities put out a warrant for Paul J. Balmer, who was, at the time, 47. He was arrested days later in Florida.

Garvin is charged in an 18-count indictment with specifications — nine counts of aggravated murder. Although there were only three murders, there were nine counts for alleged violations of the aggravated murder statute.

Kuhn said it did include five aggravating specifications which could mean the death penalty.

“She was also indicted on a separate charge involving a Nov. 26 incident that was recently referred to the sheriff that involved allegations of attempted murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and other charges,” Kuhn said at the time. “It was a robbery out there involving a couple of other folks by the name of Mollett related to the victims that were murdered. They (the victims) didn’t report it until the murders.”

Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn said the trial has been continued pending the test results of evidence.

Kuhn said no new date has been set for the trial.

It's easy to google and find the 911 call. The boy said he didn't know who the woman was. This article makes it sound like Garvin was arrested based on his description. I read in another article that he picked her out of a lineup later that night. The other article explains how the Sheriff helped him with his description. I hope they have more to their case than this or else Kuhn is going to look extremely foolish.
