Hector Soto, M.D., 71
Hector V. Soto, M.D., F.A.C.S., 71, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center. Born May 27, 1941, in Manila, Philippines, he was a son of the late Pablo Verde and Frediswinda Villacorta Soto and was an orthopedic surgeon in private practice. Dr. Soto graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, in Manila in 1964 and did his residencies in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey. He was a Diplomate and Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.). Dr. Soto was a member of the Society of Philippine Surgeons in America and the American Medical Association. For over 39 years, he treated thousands of patients both in private practice and at S.O.M.C. He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Lourdes Mallari Soto, two daughters, Marivi Soto (Abe) Amira of Columbus and Janet (David) Swarthout of Columbus; a brother, Jaime “Jimmy” (Myrna) Soto of Las Vegas, and two precious granddaughters, Mia Belle Swarthout and Sasha Lourdes Swarthout. Also surviving are two nieces, Melinda and Karen Soto, two brothers, two sisters and additional nieces and nephews in the Philippines. Also preceding Dr. Soto in death was his beloved son, Hector Vincent Soto, Jr. The family will receive friends at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN PORTSMOUTH from 2 until 7 p.m. on Sunday. A recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Adam Streitenberger as celebrant.
