Where are you going? I’m addressing those people, who, through rumors or just predetermined ideas, are headed out of the county for medical care.

I just got back to work after several days in Southern Ohio Medical Center for some very serious problems, and I can tell you it’s state-of-the-art.

I received tremendous care from everyone involved.

I want to first thank Dr. Suzann Bonzo who spotted an issue during some tests and would not allow me to leave until it was determined if I was going to be admitted.

Suzann and I have been friends for a number of years, and I could sense her concern. I really appreciate that kind of personal attention.

The next event was a heart catheterization by Dr. Daniel Jovanovich. It was easily the simplest and most painless procedure I have ever gone through.

I also received excellent care from Dr. Ernesto Banalagay whose honesty and openness let me know exactly what my condition is, and what I have to do to get better.

The early hours of learning about a serious condition can be the worst, and I was fortunate to have an angel by the name of Beth Bullock to take care of me. This wonderful SOMC nurse talked to me and gave me hope when I needed it most, urging me not to give up.

Sometimes just a gentle touch and a kind word go a long way. She gave both.

All of the nurses and staff were exceptional. It doesn’t take long to see why SOMC achieved Magnet status.

Anytime I would ring for assistance, they were prompt and accommodating. They all tried to make me comfortable, and reassure me that they were doing everything on their part to try to make me better.

In a few weeks I will have additional surgery, and I will not hesitate to return to this beautiful and functional new facility and put my life in the hands of their highly-trained staff.

To make a long column short, there is no need to travel for great medical care. It’s as close as our own Southern Ohio Medical Center.
