Bernard Percell, 85, of South Webster, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Best Care Nursing Facility.
Bernard was born in Kentucky, April 24, 1924, the son of the late Columbus and Nannie Lykins Percell.
He was employed at Williams Manufacturing Co. in Portsmouth, Ohio, for 37 years and Pinkerton Security as a security guard at Aristech Chemical. Bernard was a deacon of the Germany Hollow Free Will Baptist Church in Wheelersburg for more than 50 years. He most recently attended Cedar Street Church of Christ in Christian Union in New Boston, Ohio. He was a World War II Army veteran having served overseas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Selven, Ernest and Edward Percell, and four sisters, Mary Percell, Flora Wright, Oma Ishmael and Opal Williams.
Surviving are his wife, Freda Stephenson Percell, whom he married March 15, 1945; two sons, Michael Steven (Karen) Percell and Larry Percell of Wheelersburg; one daughter, Claudia (Ithiel) Cooper, also of Wheelersburg; eight grandchildren, Danna (Jeff) Tackett, Debi (Tom) Wagner, Ashli Marler, Samantha Meyer, Carrie Percell, Mandi Percell, Lori Cooper, and Chad Cooper; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Percell of Minford and Harold (Helen) Percell of Wheelersburg; one sister, Hazel Williams of Wheelersburg, and also a former daughter-in-law, Rose Carter.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at the Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Rev. Gary Heimbach and James Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg with military graveside rites. Friends may call Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
