In the book of John 14:12 our Savior Jesus Christ said these words: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. The context for this scripture is Jesus talking with his disciples, discussing his nearing departure in which he was trying to offer his disciples some words of encouragement, for of course, no one in their right mind would want to hear Jesus tell them he was leaving them, even if for a season. Nonetheless, Jesus told them that the person that believes in him will possess the ability to to even greater things than he did while upon the earth. Now, if you do not know already, theologians, and just your everyday Christians like myself have debated what this “greater” means. As it relates to healing, could we as human beings really do a better job than Jesus? He raised Lazarus remember? What about in the realm of other miracles, such as how Jesus fed 5,000 with one loaf of bread a one fish? Well now, what was Jesus speaking of when he said “greater?” My friend, I do not believe that Jesus was attempting to confuse us, or intended to have us hung up on a compare and contrast exercise of our capabilities and his accomplishments during his time here on earth. However, what I do believe is that God has divinely gifted each and every human being with talents, and gifts and abilities and the power to hone those gifts and use them the very best of our abilities without excuse! What is your “greater” what unique gift or talent do you have, and ability to perform it in such a way that leaves your own personal imprint that you were here. If you cannot answer this question, keep searching, keep praying, because it is there. The secret is embodied in the words of Jesus ——Believe! If you want to embrace your greater, you must believe.
