Fourteen schools from around the region traveled to the Elks Country Club in McDermott on Thursday for the Portsmouth Invitational. Wheelersburg standout Mitchell McFarland, fresh off a summer competing in numerous junior golf invitationals around the country, medaled in the event by shooting a one under par 71. Piketon finished second as team with a score of 318. DJ Graham led the way for the Redstreaks with a low score of 76. Logan High School placed first, with Jake Barstow and Logan Hallbrook both shooting par at 72.

Thanks to a low score of 34 from match medalist Jordan Tieman, the West Senators were able to squeak out a 7-stroke victory over the Clay Panthers and the Wellston Golden Rockets Wednesday afternoon. Tieman, a sophomore at West, finished as Player of the Year for his age group on the Tri-State Junior Golf Tour earlier this summer.
