The Shawnee State women’s soccer team was selected to finish sixth in the 2014 Mid-South Conference Preseason Poll, conference officials announce Tuesday afternoon.
The Bears enter 2014 after posting a 2-5-2 mark in the Mid-South last season, but went 7-2 outside of conference play to finish 9-7-2 overall.
Perennial favorite Lindsey Wilson was selected to finish first with five first place votes in the poll following an 8-1 conference record and a Mid-South Tournament title. Regular season champion Cumberland University landed in the No. 2 slot, receiving three first place votes.
Campbellsville University came in at No. 3 with 32 points and Georgetown College and St. Catharine College tied for fourth with 28.
The Bears earned 23 points in the survey, while the University of the Cumberlands (No. 7) and the University of Pikeville (No. 8) tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Shawnee State opens its 2014 schedule with a home matchup versus Ohio Valley College on Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. The Bears commence conference play on Sept. 13 against the Cumberlands.
