No. 1 Peebles advanced past No. 5 Glouster Trimble 49-47 in a District IV Semifinal match at the Convocation Center on Ohio University’s campus in Athens.

The game was tied at 47 apiece with 40 seconds reaming and the Tomcats had possession of the ball. After a late steal by the Indians, Beau Justice received the rock with five seconds left in the contest.

Justice raced down the left side of the floor and hit a jumper from 18 feet away to secure the victory.

“Justice is just unreal,” Peebles coach Josh Arey said.

“The kid as done it all year. He doesn’t quit on both ends and plays hard. A lot of times in that situation, a coach is probably thinking about a timeout. But when the best player in the area, in my opinion, is coming up the floor with the ball, you’re either going to the house with the win or you’re going to overtime. He hit an incredible shot.”

Justice finished the contest with 26 points, which was a game high.

Despite the offensive outburst by Justice, the Indians struggled early in the contest. Arey touted his team’s struggles as a part of pregame jitters as many of his players had never played at the Convo Center before.

“Early on, we were kind of tentative,” Arey said. “A lot of our kids, except of Justin, were playing at the Convo for the first time. You could tell they were nervous.

“I thought as the game went on, we got more comfortable.”

Peebles will face South Gallia in a district finals match.
