On Saturday, the Reedsville Eastern Lady Eagles routed the Portsmouth Notre Dame Lady Titans by a score of 91-35 in the Girls Division IV District semifinals at Jackson High School.

“Preparation, focus, and hard work” all contributed to the victory, according to Eastern’s Head Coach John Burdette.

The Eagles shot extremely well to start out the game, making their first four field goal attempts to open the contest, and would maintain good accuracy throughout the game. By the end of the first quarter, Eastern held a 16-point lead with a score of 25-9. Jenna Burdette led all scorers with eight points for Eastern, and Hagen Schaffer led the Titans with seven of their nine points.

The Lady Eagles maintained this momentum in the second quarter, as they would add 27 points. Burdette alone tied the Titan’s quarter total with nine points, including a trey at the buzzer to give the Eagles a commanding 52-18 lead entering halftime.

The Titans scored only seven points in the third quarter while the Eagles added 26 points to give them an astounding 53-point advantage, entering the final quarter of play with a score of 78-25.

It was in the fourth quarter that the Eagles and Titans had comparable quarter scores. Notre Dame added 10 points, but Eastern still outscored the Lady Titans by three in the quarter, bringing the final score to a 91-35 tally.

Nine Lady Eagles scored, as opposed to four Lady Titans scorers, and Eastern had four players with double-digit scoring: Katie Keller with 11 points, Laura Pullins with 12, Burdette with her 17 first-half points, and Jordan Parker with a game-high 23 points. Notre Dame had two players in double-digits: Hagen Schaffer had 11 points, and Brooke Pierron led the Lady Titans with 16.

“I don’t know if there was any one single player you could single out…that’s just the way they play. They play together as a team,” said Burdette.

Eastern will face the two-seed Clay Lady Panthers in the District finals at Jackson H.S. at 8:15 P.M. on Thurs. Feb. 27.
