JACKSON —Success in the regular season does not guarantee a long postseason run as evident by No. 1 Oak Hill’s performance Friday night as the Oaks lost to No. 8 Fairland 57-40 in a Southeast Sectional Final match at Jackson High School.

Jordan Fisher led the Oaks with 14 while Kyle Cox finished the game with 11 points. However, despite the strong performances from the two aforementioned players, Oak Hill struggled to find any offensive consistency.

The Oaks only shot 25 percent (13-52) from the field while hitting three out of 22 (.136) from behind the arc. Oak Hill coach Norm Persin wasn’t pleased with any aspect of his squad’s game but his team’s shooting woes topped the list of disappointments.

“Tonight, you can pin point every part of the game,” Persin said. “It was a miserable performance on our part. We didn’t guard anybody. We just didn’t have that energy level for some reason, I don’t know why …

” … I think it all goes with shooting. We missed them early and the kids got their heads down … “

Oak Hill’s leading scorer Garrin Stiltner struggled to find his range for most of the game. Stiltner finished the contest with five points, which is well below his season average.

“We couldn’t get Stiltner going,” Persin said. “He’s your bread and butter. But we couldn’t get him going tonight and give them credit.”

The Dragons took an early 8-3 lead before going on a 9-2 run to pull ahead 16-5 with 5:59 remaining before the intermission. The Oaks concluded the first half with 11 while surrendering 19 points.

During that span, Fairland shot 50 percent from the field while Oak Hill struggled to find the basket, finishing the first 16 minutes going 4-for-23 while only hitting one out of nine 3-point attempts.

Persin wasn’t pleased with the Oaks’ ball movement throughout the contest.

“We didn’t move the basketball, we dribbled it and we held it,” Persin said. “When we don’t pass it, we aren’t a very good team.

“It just wasn’t meant to be. We couldn’t get anyone on track … “

The Oaks lose Stiltner, Carlin Hagerty, Colton Salyers and Jordan Fisher to graduation.

“They are a great bunch of kids, they deserved better than this tonight,” Persin said.
