Clay ended the season on a high note after beating Western in straight sets.


Gabby Hickman, Anne Hopkins, Katie Redding and Lexi Gilliland led the Panthers offensively. Gilliland and Redding combined for 22 kills. Hopkins added 19 kills of her own while Hickman recorded 45 assists.


Jess Moore and Alisha Shepherd helped Clay’s defensive effort. Moore had 28 digs while Shepherd recorded 25 digs.


The Panthers return to the court in the first round of the district tournament Thursday as Manchester comes to town.

Eastern def. Notre Dame

Eastern defeated Notre Dame in straight sets to close out the season for both teams.

Brooke Pierron, Emma Gohmann, Maggie Hoover and Hagen Schafer led the Titans in the losing effort. Pierron and Gohmann combined for 10 kills while Hoover and Schafer combined to record 14 digs.

Notre Dame returns to the court Thursday. The Titans play the winner of White Oak and New Boston at home.

Portsmouth def. Chesapeake

Portsmouth picked up a win over Chesapeake Thursday. The Trojans won in four sets.

Madeline Clayton, Jacqueline Merriweather and Bailey Horsely carried Portsmouth to the win. Clayton had four aces to go along with 21 assists. Merriweather had 17 kills and 11 digs. Horsley picked up 13 kills and added 11 digs for the Trojans.

Portsmouth travels Thursday to Coal Grove to being the district tournament.

Keith Thurmer scored the lone goal for Wheelersburg while Kyler Keaton tallied the lone score for South Webster.

Jack Jordan had 12 saves for the Pirates. Trevor Coriell recorded five saves for the Jeeps.
