It took three weeks before Notre Dame’s defense allowed an opponent to erase the goose egg by their name.

Unfortunately for Grove City Christian, the 13-point outburst against the Titans’ defense was not enough to compensate for the 51-point night that Notre Dame’s offense enjoyed. With the victory, the Titans improved their record to 3-0 with the 51-13 win over the Eagles.

Grove City Christian received the opening kickoff but the drive lasted all of two plays as the Eagles fumbled at their own 34-yard line, which was recovered by Notre Dame’s Hunter Harrell.

Harrell had a solid night on defense with the fumble recovery and in the second half, Harrell had the chance to carry the ball as he had seven attempts for 35 yards.

After the fumble recovery, the Titans embarked on a six-play drive that ended with a Jack Kayser two-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-goal. After a failed extra point, Notre Dame took a 6-0 lead.

Kayser finished the game 164 yards rushing on 14 attempts.

After a missed 45-yard field goal by Grove City Christian, the Titans traveled 80 yards on seven plays, which ended on a Dakota Smith nine-yard touchdown run with 3:17 left to go in the first quarter. Notre Dame led 12-0 after a failed two-point conversion.

Smith was the second back for Notre Dame to cross the century mark in yards as he rushed for 103 yards on 13 attempts.

After a three-and-out by the Eagles, the Titans increased their lead by another touchdown after an eight-play drive that covered 79 yards. The drive was capped off by a Jonathan Major 17-yard touchdown pass to Will Toleman who split the safeties on a seam route.

Notre Dame got the ball back after another three-and-out, and only needed two plays to cover 32 yards. Will Haney capped off the two-play drive with a 14-yard touchdown run. The Titans led 25-0 with 9:04 left to go before halftime.

After another forced punt by Notre Dame’s defense, Smith returned the punt for 75 yards, which increased the Titans lead to 31-0 with 6:52 to go before the break.

On the ensuing kickoff, Grove City Christian’s Tre Roberts returned the ball 51 yards to give the Eagles their best starting field position on the evening. Three plays later, Matt Bailey connected with Tristian Taylor in the endzone on a 28-yard touchdown connection.

With Bailey’s touchdown pass, Notre Dame’s defense surrendered their first points on the young season. However, after the failed extra point, the Titans still led 31-6 with 5:49 remaining in the second quarter.

Thirty seven seconds later, Haney scored from 14 yards out to increase Notre Dame’s led to 38-6.

The hosts received the second half kickoff, which was returned 87 yards by Smith to increase the Titans lead to 45-6.

Notre Dame did turn the ball over five times including an interception, two fumbles and two turnover on downs. But not to be out done, Grove City Christian turned the ball over six times.

The Titans will put their undefeated streak on the line Friday when they travel to Northwest, which is 2-1 on the season.
