A Portsmouth man is charged in the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl. Thomas Alonzo Slade, 28, has been charged with one count of rape, a felony of the first degree and one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a felony of the third degree.
Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his office received a call on Friday requesting a deputy to respond to a Seventh Street Portsmouth location. Upon arrival the deputy was met by a Portsmouth police officer who said a 13 year old girl had been sexually assaulted since she was age 12 with the assaults occurring on Liberty Avenue which is located in the county.
Donini said the deputy was able to talk to the victim and her parents which resulted in a report being filed and a detective being called out to start an investigation.
Donini said during the investigation they were able to determine that the suspect moved here from Georgia around the end of May of this year and had been staying with friends at 73 Liberty Ave., in Portsmouth. It was reported just shortly after he moved back he met the victim and during the second week of June when the victim was age 12 is when the sexual assault took place with the last incident being last Thursday.
Deputies and detectives were able to locate the suspect at 73 Liberty Ave., in Portsmouth and were able to bring him to the office for a further investigation and interview, which resulted in the suspect being charged.
Donini said more charges will be presented to the Scioto County grand jury on a later date.
Slade was held on a $ 110,000 bond.
