Preparation for the annual Portsmouth River Days Festival requires much time and preparation. Some members of the festival committee, volunteers, and festival workers began setting up early Thursday morning for the festival which runs Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 31.
Tim Angel, River Days Festival chairperson, said the committee is looking forward to this year’s event.
“We are excited about River Days, and are expecting a great time. We just hope that the weather will cooperate with us through Sunday,” Angel said. We have a great line-up of musical talent, the food will be great, I am sure that everyone will really enjoy themselves.”
Volunteers moved about busily Thursday on the main stage, setting up, and conducting a series of sound checks, getting ready for opening ceremonies which is scheduled for 5 p.m. Food vendors, booths with crafts and a host of other merchandise were at work as well, preparing for the festival. Amusement rides were also in place, and ready for festival patrons.
Mark Wynn, owner and operator of Big Daddy’s Kitchen, one of the food vendors for the River Days Festival, said he was looking forward to this year’s festival.
“This is my fifth year, and it looks like the committee has done a great job. Hopefully, we will see a lot of folks on the river bank this year,” Wynn said. “We’ve got chicken strips, boneless wings, breaded fries, loaded fries, deep-fried pickles, are the types of foods that we will offer.”
