The Porter Township Trustees awarded a pavement contract of $167,000 to Allard Paving, of South Webster, last month during their regularly scheduled meeting. Allard Paving has begun their work and is planning on a wrap-up in about a week.
The roads scheduled for pavement include North Mill Road and South Mill Road, Short Street, Vernon Street from Clay to Ash, Pinehurst Avenue, Edmund Drive, Trouville, Milling and the Porter Township Community Center parking lot.
Porter Township takes several roads each summer and hires a company to repave them in order to ensure their roadways are friendly for their residents and passers through.
Porter Township Chairman Dave Hayden said that the pavement contract was awarded to Allard Paving, because their bid was substantially lower than the offers of their competitors. Hayden also said they also had good referrals, which helped make the decision.
“They haven’t worked with us particularly, but they have worked all over, from Columbus to other various parts of the southern state,” Hayden said. “They also had a good recommendation by the Scioto County Engineer.”
The list of roads to have work done is slightly larger than in times past, but Hayden said that is because the winter took a toll on the roadways.
“We do a survey at the start of every summer and we pick up the roads that need the most attention,” Hayden explained. “This past winter gave us a little more work to do than it has in the past. We just really appreciate the Township trusting us to spend their money on the roads to keep them safe and in good condition for them.”
The next scheduled meeting of the Porter Township Trustees is Monday, August 4 at 4:30 p.m. More information on Porter Township activities can be found at www.portertwp.com.
