The Paramount Art Center (PAC) is starting their season off with their annual musical adaptation, performed by the Paramount Players. The large-scale shows on the Paramount stage always seem to have a Portsmouth presence on it. This summer’s show will feature four locals, Tag Sadler, Sarah Brehm, Hannah Noal and Hannah Tussey in a musical adaptation of “CATS.”
“CATS” is the hit musical composed by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as “The Jellicle Choice” and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.
“CATS” is the second-longest running musical on Broadway, surpassed only by “Phantom of the Opera.” The show is also the fourth longest-running musical on West End, in London. Its popularity is so large that the show has been translated into 20 languages. During its run, the show has swept seven Tony Awards, three Drama Desk Awards and two Laurence Oliver Awards
Sadler is a recent West High School graduate, who was last seen in their production of Les Misérables, as the young lover and revolutionary Marius. Sadler has been seen in around a dozen roles over the past four years, from companies such as Portsmouth Area Arts Council, Portsmouth Little Theatre and West High School. Sadler has been accepted to Otterbein University, where he will study music. Sadler will be playing the role of Growltiger in “CATS.”
Sadler is stepping on the Paramount stage with this role and is very excited.
“I think it is a major accomplishment. It is my first time with this theatre group and I couldn’t be more proud of myself to have gotten this role,” Sadler said. “I feel really awesome about playing this role. It is such a vocally demanding part and I’m really happy to be involved.”
Hannah Noel is a senior at Wheelersburg High School and has appeared on the stage in many local troupes. Noel is stepping on the Paramount stage for the third time with this show, having played Dorothy in “Wizard of Oz” last year. Noel will be playing the role of Demeter in “CATS.”
Hannah Tussey is an Ironton native, with an extensive history in Portsmouth theatre, ranging from Portsmouth Little Theatre, Portsmouth Area Children’s Theatre and JAX Theatre. Tussey has been in well over a dozen shows and will be stepping on the stage to play Cassandra in “CATS.”
Sarah Brehm has been in 28 productions and has worked tech in 13. Brehm has been in many Paramount shows and is stepping on the Paramount stage again as Jennyanydots in “CATS.”
