The Scioto County Financial Planing and Supervision Commission made a request to the state auditor’s office in February to be released from fiscal emergency status — which was entered in August 2009. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Times Ohio Auditor of State David Yost addressed the status of the release request.

“The county has asked for release from fiscal emergency, we are in the process of evaluating that. Frankly, I would like nothing better than to come back down here this spring and make an announcement. But, were not ready to do that today,” Yost said.

Yost was the keynote speaker at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner, hosted by the Scioto County Republican Party.

The necessary steps Scioto County has to take to be released of the status are outlined by law. At the February meeting of the Scioto County Financial Planing and Supervision Commission a resolution officially requesting Scioto County be taken out of Fiscal Emergency status was passed. The resolution stated, “now therefore be it resolved that the finical planing and supervision commission for the county of Scioto, formally requests the auditor of state to determine whether the financial plan complies with all of the requirements under sections 118.27 of the (Ohio) revised code and whether the commission and its functions should be terminated.”

It was a unanimous decision by the commission to approve the measure.

“It is unanimous the financial planning and supervision commission for the county has resolved to request the auditor of state to begin a termination analysis that will result in the termination of this county from fiscal emergency,” said Sharon Hanrahan, commission chairwoman.

One of the remaining steps the county has to go through is a termination analysis with the Auditor of State’s office. It’s estimated the termination analysis will be complete in June or July.
