The Scioto County Republican Party held its annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Tuesday night at the SOMC Friends Center. This years dinner was dedicated to retiring Scioto County Juvenile - Probate Court Judge James W. Kirsch.

“From our party (Scioto County Republicans) and our community thank you Judge Kirsch,” said Kay Reynolds, Co-Chair of the Scioto County Republican Party.

Kirsch was then given a standing ovation by the more than 400 people in attendance.

“I asked Rodney (Barnett, co-chair of the Scioto County Republican Party) to be given a few minutes tonight, because this is the last time I will have to address you from the position of being the Probate-Juvenile Judge. I want to thank you, each and every one of you for the support that you’ve given me over the past 36 years,” Kirsch said. “I’ve loved what I’ve done. There is a saying out that, ‘if you like what you do, you never work a day in your life,’ I have not worked a day in 36 years.”

Kirsch said he has loved every minute of what he has done over the years.

“I have a tremendous staff, I’ve had a fair amount of illness over the last year and my staff has kept the office going,” Kirsch said. “If it would not have been for my magistrate Alan Lemons, the place would have fallen apart.”

Kirsch also recognized his wife Joy, for all of the support she has given him over the years.

“Most importantly I want to thank each of you, from the bottom of my heart. You folks have supported us and your support has allowed us to do things in our county that lead the state,” Kirsch said. “For me, it’s been a wonderful ride.”

The featured speaker for the event was Ohio Auditor of State David Yost. He talked the many rolls and responsibilities he and his office undertake.
