The Scioto County Fair Board has reached an agreement to bring Lucasville Trade Days to the fairgrounds this April.

“It is our intent to put on an event there, which we will call Lucasville Trade Days, on April 19 and 20,” said Jim Wirth, spokesman for Lucasville Trade Days. “This is a week later than it used to be and this way, we will not clash with those folks (Southern Ohio Poultry Association) that used to be there and have moved north.”

He said the event does fall on Easter weekend, which will present a challenge.

“We don’t want to try to go after that group (Southern Ohio Poultry Association) and we certainly do not wish them ill. I have been coming down there (Scioto County Fairgrounds) and participating in their show (Swap Days) as a vendor for ten years,” Wirth said. “I just felt like it (Scioto County Fairgrounds) is a fabulous place for an event, not just because it was a nice facility, also because the people of the area like this type of event.”

Wirth said the Swap Days decided to leave the Scioto County Fairgrounds, he began talking to other vendors about the possibility of bringing a similar event to the fairgrounds.

“Every time I would ask someone, if somebody were to step in and put this on would you participate. The first thing they said to me was, ‘if you are going to do this I want my same spaces,” Wirth said.

Wirth said it was after those conversations he decided pursue the idea with the Scioto County Fair Board.

Wirth also runs the Cars and Parts Springfield Swap Meet and Car Show in Springfield, Ohio.

“We put on three shows (in Springfield) and we think our Spring show, is the largest automotive event in the central United States with roughly 30,000 in attendance over a three day event,” Wirth said.

He said they are going to try to bring the experience of the Springfield show to Lucasville.

“We started talking to them (Scioto County Fair Board) two weeks ago and this event happens in five weeks,” Wirth said. “I have never in my professional career attempted to begin something and produce it in five weeks. We’re going to put our hearts into this thing, you will see an aggressive, energetic effort on our behalf to try to make this work.”

Wirth said he is already getting phone calls from interested vendors.

“All we need is a little patience’s and understanding from a lot of folks and support, we need people to come out and visit. All we have to do is succeed on our first show and we’ll be able to put on a legacy that will stay there,” Wirth said.
