Kent Madden is one of nine people who is now a candidate running for Scioto County Commissioner in the upcoming primary election.
When asked why he wants to be commissioner Madden said, “I’ve thought about that question for a longtime. With the vacancy that is going to occur in January of 2015, there is obviously going to be someone that’s going to fill that seat.”
Scioto County Commissioner Skip Riffe recently announced this retirement at the end of the year, with the completion of his current term.
“Back in the (19)90s, I was a township trustee in Porter Township and that really got me interested in how local government can impact the ordinary citizens lives,” Madden said. “That’s when my interest really got started in politics and when this opening come about I thought, now was the time.”
Madden said if elected commissioner he would do what he could, using past experiences, to make Scioto County a better place to live and work. One of the issues Madden hopes to work on, if elected commissioner, is unemployment.
“I would be interested in seeing what the other commissioners priorities are and what projects they have got started and seeing how they could use me,” Madden said.
