Officials with the 2014 St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the 7 Nations Celtic Club have named Lee Daily the 2014 parade grand marshal.
According to the 7 Nations Celtic Club, “Daily is a life long resident of Portsmouth, a founding member of the (7 Nations) Celtic Club and has served as it’s Parade Committee Chairman since its inception in 2006.”
John Hogan, 7 Nations Celtic Club spokesman, called this a unanimous decision.
“Nobody works harder on that parade and is more important to it than Lee Daily,” Hogan said. “We are absolutely delighted to recognize Lee’s contribution to both the club and our community, and hope everyone will turn out to celebrate with us on parade day.”
Hogan said this is the eighth year for the parade, and Daily will serve as the eighth grand marshal of the annual event.
Daily said he was honored to take on such a roll.
“Someone hinted about the possibility about a week ago. When I was informed I was chosen, it was a real honor,” Daily said.
This years parade is set to take place on Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m. in the streets of downtown Portsmouth. The parade will begin marching south on Market Street and turn east on Second Street. It will proceed to Washington Street and follow north to Fifth Street. Turning east on Fifth Street, the parade will then turn north on Chillicothe Street and march to the dismissal point at Tracy Park.
According to the 7 Nations Celtic Club, “parade sponsorship and participant applications are available at various locations in Portsmouth including, Port City Cafe and Pub, the Garage Cafe, the Shawnee State university Development Foundation offices and can be downloaded from the club’s Facebook page.”
