VANCEBURG, Ky. — Jesse (Logan) Bertram of Garrison, was arrested Nov. 1 and charged with first-degree assault in connection with the death of Heather Stone, 26, who was struck and killed by a motor vehicle last week in Lewis County.
According to an arrest citation, 25-year-old Jesse (Logan) Bertram of Garrison, was arrested on Nov. 1 and charged with first-degree assault. Bertram was lodged in the Lewis County Detention Center, where she remains without bond. According to the citation, Bertram was “one of three individuals seen by witnesses assaulting a female subject and leaving the incapacitated female laying in the middle of the roadway on Kinney Road.”
Sheriff Johnny Bivens said the incident in question occurred Thursday, Oct. 31, around 11 p.m. Bivens’s officers had been called to respond to a disturbance along Kentucky 1306.
Upon arrival, the officers found Stone lying in the middle of the roadway after having been struck by a passing vehicle.
According to Bivens, Stone — who lived in the Trace Creek area — was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. Stone later died at SOMC as a result of the injuries.
The arrest citation for Logan said the driver who struck the victim was unaware of Stone’s presence in the roadway. Bivens said the driver will not be charged.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Other charges may be pending.
