Pleasant Green Baptist Church at 1421 Waller Street will move outside to the church lawn on Tuesday, Oct. 15 and Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. each night. The Gospel Invasion, an evangelistic outreach effort hosted by 3G -God’s Global Gospel Evangelistic Outreach Ministry of Pleasant Green Baptist Church was founded in 2010 by Portia Williams, who serves as an associate minister and licensed evangelist at Pleasant Green.
“The purpose of The Gospel Invasion is to accomplish what the title suggests, to invade the streets with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and that is exactly what we are going to do,” Williams said. “We want to get beyond the four walls and take Christ’s message of salvation and hope to the people. Let’s face it, some people may not just walk into a church building to hear a sermon, so we want to take it to them.”
Williams said the speakers will include Pastor Hector Reffit, of Seventh Street Christian Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Minister Lynda McGinnis of Living Faith Temple, also of Portsmouth, as well as Williams herself.
“We are excited about this event, and expect great things to happen as a result of it,” Williams said.
The Gospel Invasion will open both nights with praise and worship lead by a community praise team.
“As far as the speakers and the praise team, we like to include other churches, it is not just a ‘Pleasant Green’ effort, but a collaboration between us and the community. I believe that God is calling for the churches to work together more so that he may accomplish more through us for his glory,” Williams said.
Rev. Clarence Parker is pastor of Pleasant Green.
