The Southern Ohio Procurement Outreach Center and the OSU South Centers present “Social Media for Small Businesses- Part 2,” Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, from 10 a.m. until noon at the OSU South Centers in Piketon.
Hayward Chappell of the Southern Ohio Procurement Outreach Center said workshop is a great resource for small businesses.
“It is an interactive workshop. Our agency focuses on helping businesses with government contracting, but one of the tools and resources could be using Facebook, or so forth. That is why partner with agencies like the South Center. Social media is important for our business, which is government contracting, but I think the same thing would be true for commercial sales as well,”Chappell said.
He said workshops of this type are necessary in order to keep up with technology.
“It is obvious at this time that technology has advanced, the market place, and especially younger people are using social media in a lot of different ways to make connections,” Chappell said.
Chappell said the workshop will be advantageous for business owners that are not used to social media.
“It is something that not only would be helpful to younger business owners, but those of us perhaps who are a bit older and not as comfortable with the social media and are sometimes intimidated and are missing out on opportunities to really advertise their business and make connections,” Chappell said.
According to Chappell, the workshop will look at other popular social media sites, such as Linkedin, Instagram, and Pinterest. The workshop is free, targeting small businesses, but is open to the public.
