The Piketon Central Executive Democratic Committe hosted their annual fall fundraiser at the Piketon Fairgrounds Saturday. David Pepper, 2014 candidate for Ohio Attorney General, was the featured speaker for the event.
More than 100 people attended the fall fundraiser luncheon.
Joyce Leath, Vice Chairperson for the Piketon Democratic Central Executive Committee, said she agrees with Pepper’s thoughts.
“We were pleased to have David Pepper here as our speaker. He talked about what we all believe, that we have got to get the people out (to vote), and that is something that we failed to do in the last election. We had no one at the state level, so we have got to get our people out,” Leath said.
Pike County Commissioners Harry Rider and Kenny West, Judge Paul Price and Ronny Richards, 2014 candidate for Congress, were also guests on the panel.
Pepper posed a question to the audience, and presented his definition of the role of Attorney General.
“Who is going to stand up and fight for the values you all stand for in here? I believe that your Attorney General is elected to be your lawyer, your advocate,” he said.
Pepper also expounded upon the importance of public safety, and how it is paramount for the office of Attorney General. He also emphasized the need to rise above pessimism, to be energetic, and to encourage others to do so.
Leath said she was pleased with the turnout and is hopeful for better success in the next election.
Members of the Pike County Federated Women’s Club distributed door prizes to winners present in the audience.
