Whitetail Deer Festival underway

The annual Rarden Whitetail Deer Festival is underway with loads of activities for all to enjoy.
The annual festival officially opened on Friday evening with opening activities on the main stage. As a part of the opening ceremonies a flag ceremony was held featuring local scouts.
Other activities on Friday evening included the crowning of the festival queen and princess. A karaoke contest was held along with a coon shoot.
The evening’s entertainment was provided by the Fancy Free Cloggers and the Shelpman Brothers.
On Saturday, Sept. 7 the festival starts with a 5k starting at 9 a.m., registration starts at 8 a.m.
Other activities for the day include a demonstration by Jenny Richards from the Shawnee Nature Center from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at 10 a.m., and a baby contest.
The band the gun slingers will perform from 2 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. At 2 p.m. a cornhole tournament will be held along with the Lil’ Buck & Lil’ Miss Doe Contest on the main stage.
The rejoice Cloggers will perform from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. and a shotgun competition will take place in the southwest field at 3:30 p.m. A greased pig contest will take place at 4:30 p.m.
The evening entertainment will be provided by the Tri County Express from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on the main stage. David James will take to the festival main stage at 9:30 p.m. for a performance.
On Sunday, Sept. 8 activities begin at 10 a.m. with a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the community center. The Cantrell Family will take the main stage from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. There will be a youth BB competition from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. At 3 p.m. will be the annual festival parade after which an awards presentation and the annual baked goods auction will take place.
