NEW BOSTON — A loud blast echoed through the northeast-side of New Boston late Monday night, waking neighbors and summoning police.

According to New Boston Police Capt. Steve Goins, a dispute involving two girls began in Portsmouth Monday night and was continued at a house on Oak Street in New Boston. At about 11:30 p.m. Monday, a loud blast was heard for blocks echoing in the quiet night and waking neighbors.

Facebook users immediately lit-up with speculation of gunfire on Oak Street, and New Boston Police responded.

Goins said officers responded and questioned several people at the house. They do not know what caused the blast, but did not believe it was gunfire. He said an M80 firecracker might have been tossed at the house, but he could not confirm that possibility at this time.

No injuries were reported, and no arrests were made.
