Boys and Girls Club in need of funds

The Lewis County Community Advisory Board is setting a goal to raise $10,000 by Jan. 14, 2014 in an attempt to reopen the Boys and Girls Club of Lewis County. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati will be placing after-school programming on hold with its location in Vanceburg, Ky. after 10 years of service to the community because of the current financial status of the club.
The club recently made arrangements to relocate from the Clarksburg Christian Church to Lewis County Central Elementary, and now, because of finances or lack of them, Kevin Duff, Community Advisory Chairman, said the club is forced it to suspend all services and programs.
“The board and I are very disappointed that we have been forced by a loss of grant funds to make a decision to suspend services. This Club began as a charge from the late Alan Harman to create something for the youth of our community. For 10 years we met that charge and hope to resume services as soon as funds are available,” Duff said. “The board is committed to finding a way to make it happen,” he said.
Duff said that while current Club director, Mike Kennedy, has resigned his position, he has agreed to continue consulting work for the Club as they seek to resume services.
“I have been involved in this program since 2004, and have worked with a lot of great people,” Kennedy said. “I want to thank the staff, Clarksburg Christian Church, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati, Lewis County Schools, Community Advisory Board, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, all of the community agencies and our donors for enabling us to make a positive impact in the lives of more than 1,700 children throughout Lewis County. It has been an honor to serve as the club director of the Boys and Girls Club of Lewis County,” Kennedy said.
Duff said anyone interested in knowing more about or helping the Lewis County Boys and Girls Club, can contact Mike Kennedy at Michael.firstname.lastname@example.org.
