The 2013 Scioto County Fair begins at the Lucasville Fairgrounds this week.


Gates open at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, and at 8 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Daily admission to the fair is $8 for visitors age 2 and older, and includes all Grandstand Shows. Members of the Armed Services are admitted free with official identification. Rides are provided by Michael’s Amusements, and are open from noon to 5 p.m. and 6 to 11 p.m. from Monday, Aug. 5 through Thursday, Aug. 8; and noon to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. midnight on Friday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 10.


According to the Scioto County Fair website (www.sciotocountyfair.org), this week’s schedule is:


Saturday, Aug. 3 —

  • Senior Fair Office open, noon – 4 p.m.
  • 4-H Building open for booth construction only — noon – 5 p.m.


Sunday, Aug. 4 —

  • 4-H beef, dairy, and horse penning and all open livestock
  • 4-H market hog arrival, weighing, and penning — 7-10 a.m.
  • 4-H lamb and goat arrival — 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • 4-H poultry and rabbit check in — 9 a.m. – noon, and 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • 4-H building booth set-up — 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Senior fair office open — 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • 4-H building: Still, clothing, nutrition, etc. Project sign-in — noon – 5 p.m.
  • Farm products building: Entries accepted for art, farm products, fruits and nuts, culinary, and needlework departments — 1-4 p.m.
  • Open horse show — 1 p.m.
  • Rabbit building: Market rabbits must be penned by 5:30 p.m. and weighed at 6 p.m.
  • Livestock complex: Weigh 4-H lambs and goats — 6 p.m.


Monday, Aug. 5 —

  • Grandstand: Entertainment by U. S. FREESTYLE MOTORCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES – 8 p.m.
  • Livestock complex: All 4-H beef projects must be penned by 7:30 a.m.
  • Farm products building: Entries accepted for art, farm products, fruits and nuts, culinary, and needlework departments, 8 a.m. – noon
  • Livestock complex: Weigh 4-H steers — 8 a.m.
  • Senior fair office open — 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Poultry building: 4-H poultry show — 9 a.m.
  • 4-H building: Booth construction and project sign-in — 9 a.m. – noon
  • Livestock arena: 4-H working goat judging followed by alpaca exhibition show — 10 a.m.
  • Farm products building: Flower show — 11 a.m.
  • 4-H building: Booth Judging — noon (building closed until judging completed)
  • 4-H fair beautification projects and all other projects must be registered and in place, judging of beautification projects — noon
  • Main gate: Portsmouth High School band performance — 3 p.m.
  • Livestock complex: Cloverbud interviews — 3-6 p.m.
  • Main gate: New Boston high school band performance — 5 p.m.
  • Farm products building: Farm products, fruits and nuts judging — 6 p.m.
  • Main gate: East High School band performance — 7 p.m.
  • Grandstand: Introduction of fair queen and court — 7:45 p.m.


Tuesday, Aug. 6 —

  • Grandstand: Entertainment by THE LOST TRAILERS – 8 p.m.
  • Livestock arena: 4-H sheep show — 8 a.m.
  • Rabbit barn: 4-H rabbit show — 8 a.m.
  • Farm products building: Culinary and needlework judging — 8 a.m.
  • Senior fair office open — 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Poultry building: Open poultry show — 9 a.m.
  • Livestock arena: Pet show open to Scioto County children from ages 2 to 12 — noon
  • Livestock arena: 4-H goat show — 3 p.m.
  • Main gate: Valley High School band performance — 5 p.m.
  • Main gate: Northwest high school band performance — 7 p.m.
  • Grandstand: Formal opening of fair — 8 p.m.


Wednesday, Aug. 7 —

  • Grandstand: Entertainment by LAUREN ALAINA – 8 p.m.
  • Livestock Arena, 4-H Beef Show — 8 a.m.
  • Horse Arena, 4-H English Horse Show — 9 a.m.
  • Senior Fair Office open — 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Rabbit Building, Open Rabbit Show — 10 a.m.
  • Livestock Arena: National Kiddie Tractor Pullers Association —4:30 p.m. (Registration with pulls from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.)
  • Main Gate: Green High School Band Performance — 5 p.m.
  • Main Gate: Wheelersburg High School Band Performance — 7 p.m.


Thursday, Aug. 8 —

  • Grandstand: Entertainment by CIRCUS CONTINENTAL — 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Livestock arena, 4-H swine show — 8 a.m.
  • Senior fair office open — 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Farm products building: Flower show — 11 a.m.
  • Main gate: Portsmouth West High School band performance — 5 p.m.
  • Livestock arena: 4-H poultry and rabbit auction (sale order: poultry, rabbits) — 7 p.m.
  • Main Gate: South Webster High School band performance — 7 p.m.


Friday Aug. 9 —

  • Grandstand: Entertainment by JOHN MICHAEL MONTGOMERY – 8 p.m.
  • Senior citizen day: Ages 60 and older - $2
  • Livestock arena: 4-H dairy cattle show — 9 a.m.
  • Horse arena: 4-H western horse show — 9 a.m.
  • Senior fair office open — 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Livestock complex: Cloverbud interviews —10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Livestock arena: Open diary show — noon
  • Main gate: Minford High School band performance — 5 p.m.
  • Livestock arena: Showman of showmen contest — 6 p.m.
  • Main gate: Clay High School band performance — 7 p.m.


Note: 4-H livestock not participating in any Junior Fair sale may be removed from midnight Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday if not entered in any open class show.


Saturday, Aug. 10 —

  • Grandstand: Entertainment by CALVALCADE OF THRILLS DEMOLITION DERBY – 5 p.m.
  • Senior fair office open, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Livestock arena: Junior fair livestock sale (sale order: swine, lambs, steers, and goats) — 10 a.m.
  • Junior fair premiums must be picked up at junior fair premium office by 7 p.m.


Sunday, Aug. 11 —

  • All exhibits may be removed between noon and 4 p.m. The Senior Fair Office will be open during these hours for exhibitors to pick up Senior Fair premiums if they are not distributed by the Departmental Superintendents. All items in any exhibit not removed during these times will be discarded.
