The Portsmouth Elks will be hosting their annual Junior Golf Clinic through the rest of July starting on the 14th, with two different age groups.

The Junior Golf Clinic is an instructional program designed to teach fundamental golf skills to various age groups and to encourage all youths to be active and participate in the game of golf.

“I think this is the third or fourth year that we’ve had the Junior Gold Clinic out here,” Brian Hunter, manager of the Elks Country Club, said. “It has been a lot of success and kids really seem to enjoy it. It is great to get the youth out here and to get them involved.”

Justin Vansickle, assistant manager of the Elks Country Club, has been involved with the Junior Golf Clinic each session and is taking over this year.

“Justin has been very involved as a teacher. He has worked here for ten years and is a really good golfer. He is good at getting things together getting people out on the course and enjoying golf,” Hunter said.

The Junior Golf Clinic for ages six to nine will run July 14 through July 17, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The Junior Golf Clinic for ages 10 to 15 will run July 21 through July 24, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The four day golf course costs $40 per student.

“You’ve really got to get kids started in golf young,” Hunter said. “The younger is always the better. Getting them out here for the Junior Golf Session ensures them to learn the fundamentals of golf, golf educate, ethics and everything they need to know.”

Hunter said that the club needs all the interest that they can get and most students who enroll in the Junior Golf Clinic return to learn, play or even teach.

“Golf is a good learning tool, it is a good way to get out and meet people and it also is a good way to learn values about life,” Hunter said.

Registration for the Junior Golf Clinic is easily accomplished by calling the Portsmouth Elks Country Club at 740-259-6241. Information on the Elks Country Club or the Junior Golf Clinic can be had by calling and asking for Justin Vansickle or Brian Hunter.
