Bid Your Heart Out — the annual fundraiser auction for Notre Dame School — will be Feb. 15. Patty Tennant, development director for Notre Dame Schools, said the auction is the school’s largest fundraiser.

“This is our ninth year for ‘Bid Your Heart Out’,”. It is our major fundraiser for our the preschool, elementary, junior and senior high at Notre Dame Schools,” Tennant said.

Tennant said they are anticipating another successful year, as last year’s event raised $107,000.

She said ‘Bid Your Heart Out’ has evolved into a well-attended social event for the community.

“A lot of people really enjoy coming, and they tell us they have a lot of fun,” she said.

The event will be held this year at the Southern Ohio Medical Center’s Friends Center, beginning at 5 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2014, with wine-tasting. Silent bidding will begin at 5 p.m. as well, which will go on all evening.

Tennant said there are typically 100 auction items for attendees to bid on.

“Throughout the evening you might get out bid, you can up your bid, you have a chance to be the high bidder,” she said

The grand auction will convene at 8 p.m., the highlight of the event.

“This is a live auction, with a lot of trips and large items. Our auctioneers Norman and Allen Rogers will be there to help us out with that.”

Tennant said the trips are to different places, such as Kelly’s Island in northern Ohio.

“We have a trip to Las Vegas that I am really excited about. It is a trip to see Faith Hill and Tim McGraw in their Soul to Soul concert. So people will have an opportunity to bid on that,” she said.

Bid Your Heart Out will also include a Chinese raffle, in which items such as $50 gift cards can be won.

“We also have class baskets which everyone is excited about. Each classroom has a room mother that will come up with an idea. The class baskets can be anything from a trip to the zoo, or zoo membership. We have had trips to the Wilds before in Zainesville. Once they come up with an idea, they put it together, and so each class is represented,” Tennant said.

Tennant said the success of Bid Your Heart Out is a community effort.

“It is not just the Notre Dame family that gets behind this event. The committee works very hard to make it successful, but it is the whole Portsmouth community,” Tennant said.

The dinner is set to begin at 6 p.m., compliments of Sodexho. All proceeds raised from Bid Your Heart Out are split evenly amongst the Notre Dame Schools.

“The money goes into the operating fund. It is used to maintain all of our schools, to upgrade our technologies,” she said.

Tickets are $50 per person, which includes appetizers, wine-tasting, dinner, dancing, silent-bidding, and the grand auction. Tickets may be purchased at Notre Dame High School Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Tennant said 350 tickets will be available, and urges those who desire to attend to purchase soon, as the tickets usually sell out usually two to three weeks early. To reserve tickets call 740-353-0719
