Trunks were filled with many different treats for children to enjoy during the Trunk and Treat event held at Pleasant Green Baptist Church on Saturday.
More than 500 people attended the 10th annual Trunk and Treat event held at the church. Members from the congregation of Pleasant Green Baptist Church and other local churches parked their vehicles on the church parking lot with raised trunks revealing candy and goodies to distribute.
Reverend Clarence Parker, Pastor of Pleasant Green Baptist Church, said Trunk and Treat is about offering a positive alternative to the youth in the community.
“We do this each year as an alternative to the other things that kids may get into during the Halloween season. We want them to know that there are good spirits, and not just bad spirits, and we want to emphasize that to them. It is important to us to share the love of God with them, and let them know that God loves them,” Parker said.
Members of the Gideons organization distributed 500 bibles at the Trunk and Treat event. Don Stamper a member of the Gideons, said they enjoy coming out to share the bible with the children.
“We are here today because of all of these wonderful little children, and we want to pass the word of God out to them. The Gideons are a local organization of business and professional men. We work at distributing God’s word in schools, hotels, motels,” Stamper said.
Stamper said he believes that all children are important.
“These kids are all important. They love this time of year, they are always happy with anticipation,” Stamper said.
