GRAYSON, Ky. —More than 24 regional artists will be exhibiting nearly 60 pieces in several different mediums for the monthly Final Fridays Art Walk at the Grayson Gallery & Art Center, Inc., 301 Third St., in Grayson. An opening reception for artists and the public will be held on Friday, July 29 from 6-9 p.m.
Dan Click, GGAC director, said the number of new artist participation at the Gallery is steadily increasing.
We’re elated at the number of new participating artists at the Grayson Gallery, we’re meeting each month,” Click said. “Word is spreading and we are attracting more and more younger artists as well, which gives us such hope for the future of the arts in the region. Music this month is also a bit special as Jeremy Short, a multi-talented performer with his latest band ‘Short & Company,’ will bring some big city blues to our small town but unique venue.”
During the course of reception, a brief awards ceremony will take place at approximately 7:30 p.m., to present $50 cash awards each to winners for ‘People’s Choice,’ ‘Gallery Board Choice’ and the ‘Brandon Click Art Encouragement Award’ for artists new to the gallery. Catering by Laura will provide refreshments.
Featured musicians this month will be the band “Short & Company” with Jeremy Short, Taylor Jones and Trevor Litteral. As stated on his Bandcamp page, www.jeremyshortblues.bandcamp.com. “A roots guitarist of 15 years, a student of harmony since he could stand beside the piano, and a songwriter fueled by life’s experiences, Jeremy Short won Huntington’s first Blues Challenge which sent him to the 2016 International Blues Challenge, where he finished top 32. Short is currently out promoting his debut EP, ‘Songs From The Chicken Shack’ and carefully carving himself a homeplace in the ears of each new listener.
Other upcoming events at GGAC will be a Kid’s Art Camp the week of Aug. 1 – 5. Next, poet and artist Misty Skaggs and Family will be the featured artists for the month with an opening reception on Aug. 26. Skaggs will also be presenting a workshop of poetry and art the afternoon of Aug. 13, with details to be announced.
Additionally, the monthly “Second Saturday Music & Art Circus” will be back on Aug. 13 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. to rock the house once again with a multitude of regional musicians and is free to the public.
September will bring a long-awaited Photography Show & Sale which will have area photography clubs exhibited as well as individual photographers’ work on display.
