KSP to conduct checkpoints

ASHLAND, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is reporting that officers from Post 14 will be conducting safety checkpoints at various times and approved locations throughout the Post 14 District, which encompasses Boyd, Greenup, Carter and Lawrence counties.

Trooper First Class Michael Murriell, public affairs officer of KSP Post 14, said safety checkpoints help to ensure roadway safety.

“As far as the safety checkpoints that we are conducting, we are just continuing to do anything that we are capable of to create a safe environment for everyone out on the roadways,” Murriell said. “We want everyone to enjoy their time, but to do so in a safe manner and part of the safety checkpoints is that it just allows us another avenue make sure that the environment stays safe for everybody, and to observe any violations of laws that we see.”

KSP Post 14 Troopers also conducted safety checkpoints during this year’s Fourth of July holiday weekend.

“During the holiday period we conducted several safety checkpoints throughout the post area. We were fortunate that we didn’t see any big issues occur in the post area this year,” he said.

These safety checkpoints are held in an effort to reduce alcohol and drug related crashes, ensure compliance with operator’s license laws, and vehicle equipment safety and registration laws, according to Trooper Murriell.
