South Webster couple charged with forgery

Ronald C. Hayes, 35, of 89 Simmering St., South Webster, and Jessy Stumbo, 26, of 858 Burton Road, South Webster, are facing charges of felony theft, receiving stolen property and forgery, all felonies of the fifth degree, after being arrested Thursday.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said his office received a call from Jeep Fuel located at 10532 Ohio 140, in South Webster stating that two individuals had been bringing checks into the store and cashing them. The checks were later reported to be stolen out of Jackson County.

During the investigation, detectives said they were able to determine that the checks had been stolen from a business in Jackson County and forged, which resulted in a report being filed and subsequently sent to Scioto County for a follow-up investigation. While working on that investigation detectives said they were able to identify the suspects as Hayes and Stumbo, and later located them for questioning.

The case was presented to the Scioto County grand jury, which resulted in an indictment warrant being issued. Deputies were able to locate the pair Thursday in South Webster and arrest them without incident.

Hayes and Stumbo are both being held without bond and will appear in Scioto County Common Pleas Court at a later date.
