Being a new mom can be a challenge for many women. With that in mind, Valley View Health Center (VVHC), 621 Broadway St., in Portsmouth, will host their second annual Community Baby Shower on Monday, June 27, from 1-4 p.m.

All pregnant women or new mothers with a child under the age of one are welcome to attend the Community Baby Shower, an event which will provide a host of different types of gifts, healthy snacks and snow cones to new moms, according to Jodi Dickerson, R.N, Prenatal Coordinator of VVHC.

“We have a wide variety of gifts to raffle including car seats, strollers, baby baths and diaper bags. Every mother will receive a gift for herself and her infant. There will be plenty of healthy snacks and snow cones to enjoy,” Dickerson said.

Numerous community partners and agencies such as WIC, medicaid managed care plans and the Scioto County Health Department will be present to provide helpful information to the mothers.

Carolyn Pettit, Clinical Nurse Specialist of VVHC, said providing an afternoon filled with fun and education for new mom is what they are looking forward to.

“We are looking forward to providing a fun and educational afternoon for pregnant and new moms. We hope new moms gain information about such topics as the the importance of early prenatal care, the risks of preterm delivery, and benefits of breastfeeding,” Pettit said.

The Community Baby Shower will also include car safety checks, games and outdoors games for children to enjoy.
