There was a lot more going on at Buffalo Wild Wings in Portsmouth than ‘Wings and Sports’ Saturday. A ‘Liversary’ celebration was also held there for Lucasville resident Kevin Kennedy who is celebrating one year of undergoing a successful liver transplant.

It’s been one year since Kevin Kennedy had his liver transplant, Melissa Kennedy, Kevin’s wife, said she had a desire to do something nice to celebrate the special time.

“I wanted to put something nice together for him and I have been thinking about it for a while. Back in December, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma‎, so we have been dealing with that with me. So I just prayed to God that I would have a good today to be able to come and celebrate with my husband, and God did just that,” Melissa Kennedy said.

The entire process for Kevin has transpired over a 17-month period.

“My husband had a liver transplant, and it will be one year tomorrow, on June 12th of 2015, and that was at Ohio State University, he had been on the transplant list for 17 months prior to that we got the call on June 10th, and we drove up to Columbus, and they thought were going to be able to do it the next morning, and then something happened, and they had to delay it for that night,” Melissa Kennedy said.

Kevin Kennedy said he had no idea that he would be greeted by a host of family and friends, or that the Liversary would be celebrated at this magnitude.

“I was very surprised, because I had no idea that this amount of family and friends would be here today,” Kennedy said. “I had a cousin and her husband to come from Dayton, and a cousin to come down from Columbus just for this evening, and members of our church family from Fairview Missionary Baptist Church. I also have some of the guys here that I work with, and some of my son’s friends.”

Kevin said he has really been blessed, and is thankful for the restoration of his health.

“Its amazing where I was a year ago, or really two years ago, I wasn’t feeling well and had to take some time off of work,” Kevin Kennedy said. “I was on the transplant waiting list for 17 months. I have been really blessed. I went back to work this past February, and it is just great to be able to walk around and to be able to enjoy myself now.”
