Carpathios chosen to participate

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Dr. Neil Carpathios, Associate Professor of the English & Humanities Department at Shawnee State University, has been chosen as one of only fifteen Ohio poets to participate in a statewide educational program, The Future Laureates Program.

The program pairs an established Ohio poet of national reputation with a current Ohio high school student who has shown an aptitude and talent for poetry writing. The mentor and student will communicate via e-mail to help the student revise and finish an original poem that will appear for national publication the next year.

“I’m honored to have been chosen as a mentor for the Future Laureates Program from a handful of Ohio poets, especially because it involves working with a young, up and coming poet. The education of student poets is an area that needs more attention, and this program is an exemplary initiative,” said Dr. Carpathios.

Dr. Carpathios will work with a high school student out of Chillicothe High School in the coming year. The program will commence later this summer.

Dr. Carphathios was chosen by the Poet Laureate of Ohio, Amit Majmudar, to participate in the program. Majmudar chose mentor poets based on publication records and active engagements in both the community and academic spheres.
