The former house the Scioto County Adult Probation Department occupied on sixth street in Portsmouth was razed on Tuesday.

A crew from Solid Rock Construction took the structure down, under the direction of the Scioto County Commissioners. The commissioners said the house had a number of issues and it was not economical to repair the structure.

The issues with the structure caused the department to move into a vacated law office over a year ago.

When asked what’s going to become of the space, Scioto County Commissioner Doug Coleman said once all the debris is removed that space will be for parking.

He said once everything has been hauled away, gravel will be put into its place for people to park upon.

Scioto County Bryan Davis said the lot will be asphalted eventually once everything is compacted.

The cost for the destruction was roughly $5,000 and it’s anticipated an additional 10-13 parking space will be created.

Coleman said once parking is available, it will be tight because of surrounding structures.
