In November, Altivia Petrochemicals announced its acquisition of Haverhill Chemicals in Haverhill, Ohio.
As a part of the acquisition local officials agreed to make some improvements to Haverhill Ohio Furnace Road.
Southern Ohio Port Authority Executive Director Jason Kester said the road improvements will serve as the local incentive to the project.
When asked about the improvement Kester said, “Haverhill Ohio Furnace Road is currently your normal country road. We have not locked in how wide we’re going to make it; we’re going to bring it up to standard for truck traffic a minimum of 12 foot lanes”
Since the announcement of the completion of the acquisition a number of agencies have partnered together to share in project cost. Current estimates of the road improvement project are $724,700.
Earlier this month SOPA was granted $330,000 for costs associated with the completion of a public roadwork project in support of the Altivia Petrochemicals project.
The Southern Ohio Port Authority will be granted $330,000.00 for costs associated with the completion of public roadwork in support of the Altivia Petrochemicals, LLC project.
The scope of the project will include reconstructing and widening of Haverhill Ohio Furnace Road between U.S. 52 and County Road 1, and will include roadway erosion control with embankment and shoulder support, conduit drainage, and roadway paving.
Recently the Scioto County Commissioners approved a grant application to the Governor’s Office of Appalachia for what’s believed to be the last part of necessary funding before the project could start.
“The two last things we were waiting on was getting final approval on a grant and the design of the roadway,” Kester said.
Kester said the funding sources for the project include JobsOhio, the Governor’s Office of Appalachia, Scioto County Engineer Craig Opperman is contributing the design work and funding out of his budget and Fluor-BWXT.
Work on this project is anticipated to get started over the summer.
This project will create 30 new full-time equivalent jobs and will retain 51 full-time jobs.
