Parades to be held in Greenup, Co.

GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. — The cities of South Shore, Flatwoods, and Russell, Ky. are welcoming the Christmas holiday with parades this week.

Mayor of South Shore, Cheryl Moore, said they are looking forward to the hosting the annual parade which will be held Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. The line up 3:30 p.m. at East 1st Ave. Parade will end at the SS Rotary Park. Santa will be there, and the Park Committee will have refreshments. The parade route is East 1st Ave to Main Street, East 4th Ave, over Viaduct then James Hannah Drive to Narco Drive and ending at the South Shore Rotary Park.

The parade for the city of Russell, Ky. will be sponsored by the Downtown Russell Business Association.The Grand Marshal for this year’s fun is Bob Greene.

Bob has been a resident of Russell his entire life except for his time he was in the service for our country. He is currently the Funeral Director of Carmen’s Funeral Home in Flatwoods. The parade will be held Thursday Dec. 3, 2015 beginning at 7 p.m. The line-up will be from 6 p.m.– 6:30 p.m. starting at Clinton Avenue which is the first street from the viaduct into downtown from US 23.

The Russell parade route will go through downtown on Bellefonte Street, past the Senior Center (formerly Rail City Hardware) and continue going left up Ferry Street. After the parade is finished, the community is invited to Russell Fire Station as Santa Claus will be stopping at the Russell Firehouse.

With the theme, ‘Yuletide Memorie,’ the Flatwoods, Ky. parade will get underway, Saturday, Dec. 5, beginning at 1 p.m. The parade is hosted by the Flatwoods Lions Club. Lineup will begin in the area of the General Heating and Air building at 12 p.m. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. Mark Justice and Lions Club President Susie Gullett will serve as the spokespersons in front of Carman Funeral Home. All churches, civic organizations, schools and individuals to join us for the festivities.
