FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky House leaders announced Monday that they have named state Rep. Tanya Pullin as chair of the House Budget Review Subcommittee on Justice and Judiciary. House Speaker Greg Stumbo, said Pullin was appointed based upon Pullin’s past experience in public safety matters.

“Tanya is an excellent choice to lead this committee, because she spent years overseeing public safety matters as the previous chair of the House Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee,” Stumbo said. “Her work as an attorney gives her added insight as well, not to mention her years as a legislator. There is no one who works harder than she does when it comes to forming policy and fighting for their constituents.”

Pullin said she welcomes the new appointment, although it will be very challenging.

“It is a lot of responsibility, and it is a new area for me, so I welcome that,” Pullin said. “I welcome that because I chair the Veterans and Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee for many years, and so I welcome this new responsibility and it will be a difficult job. The budget this year will be very difficult in every area, and it is definitely going to be a tough job, but I will try to do my very best for all of the people in Kentucky and for the people whom I represent in this area.”

The House BR Subcommittee on Justice and Judiciary is one of seven that comprise the Appropriations and Revenue Committee, which oversees the budget for the chamber.

“There are seven subcommittees, and each one has some part of State government, and this one is called justice and judiciary, and it is includes the administrative offices of courts, in other words, the court systems but also parts of the justice cabinet,” Pullin said. “I have been a member of the committee approximately four years, and just on Friday, I was named the chair of that subcommittee, in addition, I will still keep my job as vice chair, but of the appropriations and revenue committee.”

Pullin expressed gratitude to House leaders for the opportunity that has been granted to her.

“I want to thank the House leaders for placing their faith in me and giving me this opportunity,” said Rep. Pullin of South Shore,” she said.
