A Pike County man has been indicted for bringing drugs into the Scioto County Jail. Steven Kelly Hartley, 36, of Waverly has been charged with illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified government facility, tampering with evidence and possession of heroin.

According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s office, heroin was reportedly found during a body cavity search of Hartley as he was being placed in the Scioto County Jail.

The report said, sheriff’s detective Matt Spencer spoke with sheriff’s corrections officer Sergeant Bradley Grooms who told him during the intake of Hartley, a bag containing nine individual bags of black heroin was found as the result of a body cavity search.

Grooms said, once the bag was found, Hartley confessed that the substance contained heroin. The report said the substance was not field tested but was placed in a bag for evidence.
