PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Shawnee State University’s Nursing Department hosted the Healthy Cub Fair on Oct. 20, 2015 at the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center.

The Healthy Cub Fair is a preschool health fair for three to five year olds in the Portsmouth area. 83 students and their teachers attended the 2015 fair.

SSU students from the Nursing Department, Master of Occupational Therapy Program, Occupational Therapy Assistant Program, Physical Therapy Assistant Program, Dental Hygiene Program were there to perform the screenings. The SSU Security officers and the Department of Public Safety were also there to give the preschoolers their fingerprints.

“The fair offers not only visual and hearing screenings, but the MOT students screen for other possible problems, and students from each department set up games and educational activities for the preschoolers.” Said Christy Sherman, Assistant Professor of Nursing at SSU. “It’s also a great opportunity for the SSU students from all the departments to interact with children as young as preschoolers as they may not often get to do in their clinical.”

The 2015 Healthy Cub Fair was sponsored with help from the SSU Development Foundation.
